Brompton Electric e-Motiq Lights
This guide is for the Brompton Electric e-Motiq (or MK 2) range of bikes with the motor built into the rear wheel - not for the original Brompton Electric which had the motor built into the front wheel
Rear Light
Rear Light Summary
The Brompton Electric (e-Motiq or version 2) rear light can't be moved from a no-rack to rack version - the cable is not long enough
The light is mounted just behind the seatpost - where the reflector would be on a non-electric Brompton -and the cable is long enough to reach there
The light plugs into the controller at rear of the bike
No Rack Version
Brompton part code: (not currently available)
- Busch and Muller 2C light
- Cable length when completely disconnected: 522mm
More info to follow soon!
No Rack Version Cable Routing
Rack Version
Brompton part code: Q104205
- Busch and Muller 2C light (it's easier to install the light BEFORE fitting the rack)
- Cable length when completely disconnected: 820mm
- Tools required: T7 Torx
Rack Version Cable Routing
Starting at the light end and running forwards

There are two spade connectors on the light onto which the cable connects - inside the outer sheath there are actually two wired - for connecting to the two connectors
- Red on the left
- Black on the right

The cable then routes just under the roller wheel on the inside of the rack

before routing back up and along the top of the rack and held in place using two plastic clips (we guess you could use zip ties)
These two clips use Brompton code: Q103720

It then routes down towards the bottom bracket (over the top of the cross brace to which the brake caliper is connected)

It then goes through the third plastic clip (again ou could use a zip tie)
before curving through a guide (its quite tight to push into the guide) and being held in place with a clamp using a bolt which needs a T7 Torx key to remove / tighten
This clamp holds both of the bottom cables in place

The rear light cable then curves upwards and connects into the top of the two smaller connection points
Important: When plugging the lighting cable into the controller, the arrow should be facing towards you - you can see in the below photo that it is visible in the "gap" as it plugs in - the pins are on the control unit - so you don't want to bend them as you plug in if you have the orientation wrong!
