The standard Brompton front wheel has been unchanged for quite some years
Note: This is for original Brompton folding bikes / A Line / C Line - the P / T / G Line bikes use different wheels
The last change was in 2013 - more than a decade ago - when the rim changed from a single wall rim to a double walled rim (for extra strength)
At that time the Brompton internal part code changed to QRIM-28-STD (signifying 28 holes an standard - straight drilled - holes) and QRIM-28-STD-BK for the black version
The lacing pattern was radial - i.e. the spokes didn't cross each other at any point between the hub and the rim
It used 145mm long spokes with a Brompton code of: QSPOK-145-PG-14G
It has an 8mm valve hole for a Schrader hole
In 2020 Brompton changed their part codes from mnemonics to pure numbers to make it impossible to memorize them all:
- QRIM-28-STD became Q100037
- QRIM-28-STD-BK became Q100168
- The spokes used - previously QSPOK-145-PG-14G - became Q101697
- QSPOK-145-PG-14G-BK (the black version) became Q100516
In 2025 the wheel was changed so that all wheels use silver spokes and the black spokes
In 2026 the wheel has been changed to use a different rim (as part of the Brompton SKU - Stock Keeping Unit - reduction program)
It now uses the same rim as the rear wheel - Brompton code QRIM-STD-AGL (and QRIM-STD-AGL-BK) - the difference with this rim is that the holes (still 28) are drilled at an angle instead of straight
The wheel still uses the same length spokes - but the lacing pattern is different
