In the beginning ....
The original (and long awaited) Brompton Tool Kit arrived in 2012, so it's over a decade old now (time flies!)
It is a small tube which fits inside the front part of the main frame - so you can fit it and forget about it (until you need a tool for a roadside repair)
Ten years later ...
In 2022 the all new Brompton T Line arrived - with many, many changes from the original Brompton folding bike - more and more of which are gradually being incorporated into the core bikes
but ... the original tool kit didn't fit
The Brompton T Line has two key differences which mean that the original tool kit doesn't fit / work with the T Line:
1/ Frame tube diameter
The T Line has a larger diameter frame when compared to the C Line and P Line - so the tool kit would just rattle around (which we at least would find annoying)
2/ Frame material
The original tool kit had a rubberised magnet at one end - which attached it to the steel frame - this wouldn't work with the titanium frame as the magnet wouldn't stick!
The G Line offers a clue
The G Line (the 20 inch wheel size Brompton) had a special tool kit made to fit in the frame - but instead of using a magnet to hold it in place, it used a frame insert into which the toolkit fitted
2026 and the T Line tool kit arrives
In 2026 the T Line (not T Line Electric though) finally got it's own tool kit
Coloured to look like the T Line brushed titanium finish and with a T on the outside it matches the bike nicely
Like the G Line it uses a frame insert to hold it in place, but this is tool free and easy to install (the G Line toolkit required a tool which wasn't in the tool kit in order to install it)
The T Line Tool kit contains the following tools:
- 15mm ring spanner
- Ratchet driver (for the included double ended bits)
- 2 x tyre levers (magnetic to help reduce rattling)
- 8mm spanner (incoroprated in tyre lever no 1)
10mm spanner (incorporated in tyre lever no 2)
Screwdrivers:
- 2 x cross head
- 2 x flat head
Allen (hex) keys:
- 2mm
- 2.5mm
- 3mm
- 4mm
- 5mm
- 6mm
What it doesn't contain that was in the original tool kit is a puncture repair kit
